Detroit's Brendan Benson, later of the Raconteurs, followed up his promising debut with this better 2002 disc, fueld by jangle-power and solid songsmithery. Playing both sides of the Beatles/Stones dichotomy, Benson proffers sugary-sweet melodies and harmonies with a rough-edged garage-y shell, coming up with a sound that has since served him well in many other side projects and solo albums.
