Description

1950-53 on CD

The turn of the decade of the fifties was a halcyon time for women R&B singers; the late 1940s had seen the rise of important stylists such as Dinah Washington, Ella Johnson and Annie Laurie, and during 1949-53, major female artists such as Little Esther, Ruth Brown, Big Maybelle and many others all enjoyed national chart action. For every major success story, however, there were dozens of talented female R&B singers that didn't get the breaks; one such was Terry Timmons. This CD offers "most" of Terry Timmons, if not her complete recordings. Despite the strong Dinah Washington style, most of her recordings are fine originals performed by Timmons alone, except for the few duets with Memphis Slim, which were recorded while she was touring with his band in 1951/52. Features: eating my heart out for you / worried woman blues / ain't supposed to be like that / your key won't fit my door / you foolish thing / what you bet / i'm crying / the question / drivin' me mad / blue evening / i could make you care / mr. Low love / i shouldn't have to cry over you / got nobody to love / all night long / The same old thrill / daddy be good to me / how long must i wait / midnight / my heart belongs to only you / please don't leave me now / evil eyed woman / he's the best in the business
