Distant Memories on CD

Diverse musical influences and personal life experiences converge on 'DISTANT MEMORIES', the first full length CD release by Arizona singer/songwriter AMY NIELSEN. 'Twelve tracks filled with heartache, redemption and humor...I think there's something here for everyone', Amy states with a wry smile. Folk, rock, country, blues, even gospel are represented, blending into what can only be called 'American' music. 'I grew up listening to a lot of classic folk and country', Amy relates. She lists Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash and daughter Rosanne, John Denver, and Bobbie Gentry among her many influences. A Mesa, Arizona native, Amy started her musical career at the tender age of 3, singing for weddings and other special events for family and friends. She began penning her first songs at age 8, and, after becoming enamored with a hot pink guitar in a local music store, she embarked on a mission to self-learn her new instrument in order to give a more expressive musical voice to her songwriting. Singing a wide range of musical styles in an assortment of bands and traveling across the country throughout the 90's, Amy discovered her own voice. 'I like to mix old-style country with folk, blues, and interesting vocal harmonies to create my own distinctive sound', she says. And now, on 'DISTANT MEMORIES', that voice is ready to be heard. James Miroslaw is Amy's musical partner on 'DISTANT MEMORIES', serving as arranger, engineer, producer, and sole musician on the album. 'Yes, I am actually all the members of The Amy Nielsen Band', James says. 'I win all of the musical arguments'. According to James, it all started with the source. 'I fell in love with the songs first', he says. 'And finding the right musical expression for great songs is almost easy, and is very rewarding. And these are great songs!' Playing all instruments as well as providing backing vocals, James painstakingly put together all of the tracks for the album, one instrument at a time, over the course of a year, with time off only to mend a broken hand, courtesy of an errant stick in a hockey game. For James it was time well spent. 'I am proud that Amy trusted me with her songs...I think you'll find they are worth your investment too'.
