Playin in the Band on CD

Singer/songwriter, Andy Belt and has been the vocalist of the Baltimore based band, Black Friday for the past 25 years. Playin in the Band is his first solo effort which attempts to conceptually narrate his band experience from age 16 to present. This project features instrumental contributions from an impressive stable of musicians including Kyle Hollingsworth of String Cheese Incident and Warren Boes of All Mighty Senators. Violin prodigy Patrick McAvinue of Smooth Kentucky also contributes, in addition to Andy Belt's longtime fellow Black Friday members, Brian Baker, Bryan Sharp and Shawn Heming. Playin the Band weaves the narrative of a struggling songwriter from age sixteen to his mid forties. The story is told through a panoply of style and tempo, blending traits of Rock, Blues and Country into a conceptual timeline that runs the gamut of the emotional spectrum. From the Blues-based Rock found in the title track "Playin in the Band" to the gospel soaked ballad "I'll Play", to the almost pop driven rhythms of "Gimmie Some", Andy Belt has taken a common theme and addressed it through a filter of wide-ranging musical style. Playin in the Band highlights a diverse instrumentation ranging from distorted guitars found in the hard driving "It's Alright" to the marimba on the pop soaked "Gimmie Some" to the viola found in the culminating epic, "Song is on the Wind". Playin in the Band, the introspective retrospective, is just that. Andy Belt pours his musical soul into telling a story which should ring familiar with anyone who has ever had the "playin in the band" experience first hand, while creating an entertaining listening journey for those who haven't.
