Haitink: The Philips Years on CD

Dutch-born conductor Bernard Haitink made his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1956 when he stood in for an indisposed Carlo Maria Giulini. In 1959 he was named First Conductor of the orchestra and began an exclusive recording relationship with Philips that lasted for more than 30 years. Haitink's Philips discography-rooted firmly in the 19th- and early 20th-century symphonic repertory with his cycles of Mahler and Bruckner achieving reference status-is the focus of this 20-disc set that includes several recordings which appear as international CD releases for the first time (symphonies by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert) as well as the CD debuts of works by Hendrik Andriessen and Stravinsky. Several other recordings contained within have been unavailable for a number of years and are included here, making this set a gem for Haitink fans and classical connoisseurs alike! Decca.
