Dead Ninja Christmas on CD

A music industry producer recently described the songs on this CD as "a labor of love". My first reaction was amusement. I had never considered this material in that light. I just felt I had written a few comic, novelty, holiday tunes. Some are a little weird, which is, I hope, a good thing. Some of the songs are whimsical, which is ok also, seeing as how some of us, the private and the public, are often just as whimsical. But, a labor of love was never a part of my own observation. However.......I think he might just be right. I have recorded more than one hundred original songs and I have always enjoyed that creative process. But this was very unusual in the way that it evolved. I originally wrote the first song on the CD, "Reindeer for Breakfast on Christmas", a few years ago and recorded it as a single. Then early in 2006 I wrote and recorded "I Was a Slave for Psycho Santa". At that point I started wonder if it would be possible for me to come up with enough new inspirations to write and record enough more Christmas theme songs to complete an album. My concern was that, if it took me a couple years just to think of two song subjects, how many years would it take to write all the other songs. Then, something rare and beautiful happened. In the next nine days, I received the inspiration and creative energy to write the remaining nine songs for the album. I can not fully explain how this happens, but every morning I would just wake up and instantly have the idea I needed to write the next song. This is not unheard of in songwriting circles. But it does not happen often. I became so caught up in this whirlwind of creative energy that I seemed to develop some kind of emotional union with the process itself. I constantly looked forward to the next idea and the pure pleasure of sharing in the evolution of one thought, into many. One image into many. One satisfaction into many. It is my sincere hope that many of us are able to glimpse from time to time, and to relate to, from time to time, how something as innocent as a few ideas, can spark memories from childhood and kindle some simple pleasures to nurture some many who journey. I know now that I have indeed loved these songs and I still do. I hope you come to share on some level, this simple pleasure. Sincerely, Chuck Picklesimer.
