This is not our choice, for we have numerous artists from the country on our roster. This sad state has arisen due to the the difficult political situation, and we and all rockin' people have one wish and we shout it loud "Great Britain; please come back with us, we miss you, we want you, and we all need each other." This album is put together by Rhythm Bomb's founder Ralph Braband, and of the twenty recording, the album includes eighteen Europe based acts. There are two acts who are affiliated with Great Britain, the French and English trio, The Nut Jumpers and the American travelling Blues boy, Little Victor. Most certainly Rhythm Bomb promotion CD's, namely the Perfect For Parties series have gained a reputation for show-casing quality acts and due to budget pricing this allows people to venture into new musical territory. This CD album Farewell Britain (RBR 6007) is no exception to the rule and the artists themselves provide the songs and you can bet your bottom Dollar they are A plus songs! Musically there is an across the board mixture of styles, including; Old School and Wild Rockabilly, jiving Rock 'n' Roll, and some traditional and hard driving Blues. This style includes a pretty eclectic and wide range of American of R&B and pop songs mostly recorded in the 1950s and mid-1960s in a slow or medium tempo and often in a minor key. Popcorn can be recognized by it's tempo just as much as it's sound. In an article for The Guardian titled "Belgium's 'Popcorn: the last underground music scene in Europe" musician and writer, Bob Stanley wrote "the purity of Belgian Popcorn is it's very impurity. It won't stay that way forever.' Sadly the trademark "Popcorn" dance style (that reminds me in more than one way of the American "Shag" dance and culture still so popular in Carolina) stayed pretty much in Belgium. Everywhere else, the British "vision" of the Popcorn genre and dance seem to be the most popular version around the World (just like all the other similar genres I mentioned) and not the original and Belgian Popcorn. In the current "international" version of Popcorn (mainly focused on the gritty R&B side of the genre) the minor key seems to be almost mandatory and slower Northen Soul dance moves replaced the original hand dance that was actually a slower version of "classic" 1950s rock and roll dancing. On the other hand, this created a new "buzz" that seems to appeal to younger generations, while in Belgium the Popcorn crowd is mostly composed of people over 40. For strange that it seems only a few compilations of American and other R&B and pop music in the Belgian Popcorn style (also known as "Oldies Popcorn") have been released to this day. Before this series (of 3 volumes) none of them focused on blues (even if lotta songs included here are already regarded by many as "classics" of the genre) so I decided to change that. The album embraces songs about, dancing, Santa Claus, the Holy Night, returning home, and bringing in a brand-new year. The album is a musical all-around look at the traditions which are aspects of the celebration, sang by both Negro and a handful of Caucasian artists. The staff at Koko Mojo Records metaphorically raises a glass and wishes you, your family, and friends all the best and a prosperous New Year, and we thank you for your continued support. The album continues the concept of Let's Have A Doo Wop Christmas (KM-CD-78) with a flashback to earlier times with songs about Santa Claus, either getting hip (The Marquees), doing the boogie, or getting the blues (The Voices and Huey "Piano" Smith). The coming together of family and friends I'll Be Home For Christmas (The Pilgrim Travellers), or sadness when away from someone, Marvin & The Chirps I Will Miss You This Christmas or the ultimate separation through incarceration, Christmas In Jail (The Youngsters). The colorful aspect of Christmas is approached through decoration, The Christmas Tree (The Episodes) and excitement of things soon to happen, Limbo Under The Bed (The Classic Four). A sprinkling of seasonal humor is included Santa Claus Got Stuck (In My Chimney) (Ella Fitzgerald), merriment and fantasy, Dance Mr. Snowman Dance (The Crew Cuts), and childhood memories of the Winter Wonderland (Blue Notes). The album furthermore emphasizes the latter part of the celebration namely the ringing of the bells and a brand-new year and the resolution made by people (The Dell Vues and The Faces), the proclamation of, Hello Mr. New Year (The Cool Breezers). The album is concluded with the question asked of family, friends, and lovers, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve (Dante and The Evergreens).
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0732/1937/5187/files/4012246_0c5d7c0c-e136-4337-8792-4d1fb1fdf977.jpg?v=1789035082
do-you-mean-it-earthquakes-from-the-gitbox-4260072728226
Do You Mean It: Earthquakes From The Gitbox
The Mojo Man Sez: Looka here Jack, lemme tell you a natural fact. The album offers an insight as to the birth place of rhythm 'n' blues artists. This album offers an interesting mixture of blues performances, all of which have trekked the passage of time and still sound fresh and vibrant. Upon migration many artists benefited from better production and distribution of their recordings and fame and fortune was the dream. The albums variety of sound features the man of mystery Robert Johnson, the obscure Jack Davis and Ike Turner along with several of his band members. Several 'Trumpet' artists are again featured with recordings for the label and beyond, we include one Wally Mercer through association with 'Trumpet' Numerous artists migrated from their birth place, and for many Chicago was the blues mecca. Within this series the auditory of those who stayed within their home areas is clear, and for those who migrated mainly the backing was different, the blues became 'electric'. None the less rarely were the downholme blues intonations none apparent in the big city recordings. The African American folk traditions no matter where the musicians travelled were deep inside these performers. Every album has sleeve notes and 28 songs, mastered for the best possible sound available. The Green Book (published from 1930 to 1965) had a listing for everything from where black people can stay like hotels, motels, things called tourist homes where people opened up their houses to travelers. It has restaurants, barbershops, gas stations, clubs, liquor stores. And then it has places where we could go and vacation and recreation spots. The emerging African-American middle class bought automobiles as soon as they could, but faced a variety of dangers and inconveniences along the road, from refusal of food and lodging to arbitrary arrest. In response, Victor Green (1892-1960) wrote his guide to services and places relatively friendly to African Americans. I would like to dedicate this collection to him, his work and his legacy
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0732/1937/5187/files/3720893_024fb27a-81d8-4ea0-be8b-62ba58770bc5.jpg?v=1789035090
boss-black-rockers-vol-4-slow-down-various-artists-4260072728868
Boss Black Rockers Vol 4 Slow Down (Various Artists)
Dear Cats and Kittens, dig this cool array of killer black Rock and Roll from the "Golden Age" of American music. So many similar projects were devoted through the years to white rock and rollers (even the most obscure and unknown) and very little to the people that not only "originated" this music and played it long before white musicians started to fool around with it. They also continued to play it when black Rhythm and Blues music was suddenly re-named "Rock and Roll" to appeal to a wider white audience in segregated America and became a multi-racial genre in the mid-1950s. Some tunes are pretty well-known but the vast majority are not. I'm pretty sure you have never heard a lot of the tracks included here - even if a lot of them were pretty popular in the 1950s among both black and white Rock and Roll fans. Most of the artists in this new collection were actually household names in the "Rock and Roll World" of the 50s and early 60s. On top of the "usual" bunch of "Cadillac" songs you simply just can't avoid when you are dealing with Black music recorded after 1945, we also have more Rocket 88s and Dyna-Flows, Pontiacs, Rocket 69s, Ford Thunderbirds, hot rods, roadrunners, drunk drivers, car crashes, motorhead babes, radars and trips down Highway 61 and Route 90 to match with the ones on ole Route 66. The music featured here is very similar to the cars these songs are about. Listen to 'em as you would go riding on a 1956 Eldorado Cadillac, enjoying the sinking plushness of the seats, the leather aroma, the timbre of the horn's call, and the smoother than smooth glide over the road (even the bumpy ones), the sleek, elongated lines of the body, the cool tailfins and the shine of the chromed bumpers. I often wondered why Black Americans loved Cadillacs so much, back in the day. Of course, I was sure it was a "prestige" thing (to own a Cadillac was just like owning your own plane nowadays) but they were many other cool and luxurious cars out there that were just as good - and expansive. None of them could touch a Cadillac, according to the vast majority of Black Americans. Some of them actually enjoyed other cars even better, but they were a minority and considered as some kind of "dissidents" so to speak. I research it and I found out that Cadillacs didn't come to be a favorite among Black people by accident.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0732/1937/5187/files/3720894_86e93e5e-5c30-4b28-8f96-dae07994d6c6.jpg?v=1789035089
southern-bred-3-4260072728691
Southern Bred 3
The Easy Living Plan' Southern Bred Mississippi R&B Rockers (KM-CD-36) is our third 'Koko Mojo' album in the roots Mississippi series. This album includes down home and big city electric blues, and some jiving rhythm 'n' blues. On many recordings perhaps due to developing recording techniques and better-quality microphones the recordings sound musically stronger and clearer. Each and every track is a sure-fire hit, and the emphasis is firmly based on exciting and vivacious blues music. The album features Chicago kingpin Willie Dixon, the amazing one-man band Dr. Ross, a man who was at the dawn of the change from blues to rock 'n' roll Jackie Brenston, the wild and exotic Kid Thomas and more! Historically numerous artists migrated from their birthplace, and for many Chicago was the blues mecca. Within this series the auditory of those who stayed within their home areas is clear, and for those who migrated mainly the backing was different, the blues became 'electric'. None the less rarely were the downholme blues intonations not apparent in the early big city recordings. The African American folk traditions no matter where the musicians travelled were deep inside these performers. This 'Koko Mojo' album is compiled by well-known Dee Jay and face on the music scene Mark Armstrong, who has been Dee Jaying since his early teen years. If you don't know what's this all about let me put y'all wise: Soul food is an ethnic cuisine traditionally prepared and eaten by African Americans, originating in the Southern United States. This cuisine originated with the foods that were given to enslaved West Africans on southern plantations during the American colonial period; however, it was strongly influenced by the traditional practices of West Africans and Native Americans. Due to the historical presence of African Americans in the region, soul food is closely associated with the cuisine of the American South although today it has become an easily identifiable and celebrated aspect of mainstream American food culture. It fashioned from the meager ingredients available to the slave and sharecropper black families. The meat used was usually the least desirable cuts (stuff white people would throw away) and the vegetables, some bordering on weeds, were all that was available for the black slaves to prepare nutritious meals for their families. From these meager ingredients evolved a cuisine that is simple yet hearty and delicious... Every ethnic group has what it calls "soul food" - soothing, comfort food that brings back warm memories of family dinners, however, today, the term "soul food" simply means African-American cuisine. Do you like "Kentucky Fried Chicken"? Colonel Sanders' original Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe was stolen from a black woman. Do you like to eat Potato Chips? Thank a black chef named George Crum. Do you like Jack Daniel's? A black man named Nathan "Nearest" Green taught Jack Daniel an ancient African technique that filtered liquor through a charcoal mellowing system. This technique is what gives Jack Daniel's Whiskey it's rich flavor and taste. Do you like to drink Coca-Cola or Pepsi-Cola? You can thank enslaved Africans. They brought the kola nut - one of the main parts of Coca-Cola - to what is now the United States. West Africans chewed the nut for it's caffeine. Enslaved Africans also brought watermelon, okra, yams, black-eyed peas, and some peppers. These foods are commonly eaten in the U.S. today. They show how Africans forced into slavery - beginning in the 1500s - influenced the American diet. Frederick Opie wrote a book about some of the foods that connect Africa and America. The book is called "Hog and Hominy: Soul Food from Africa to America." Opie explains that people who were bringing enslaved Africans to North America wanted to keep them alive and earn a profit. As a result, Africans on the slave ships were fed food they knew and liked. Those foods landed along with the people. Opie explains that fruits and vegetables brought from Africa grew well in America. One reason is that enslaved Africans planted their own gardens to help feed themselves. In time, the plants from Africa slowly moved from gardens of the enslaved to those of the wealthy and powerful. For example, the homes of U.S. presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had gardens planted with seeds from Africa. Those fruits and vegetables changed the way cooks made pies in America. In England, pies were made with meat. African-Americans took the English meat pie and made it with fruit or vegetables, such as sweet potatoes. Enslaved cooks developed gumbo, jambalaya, pepper pot, and a mix of green leafy vegetables and pork called Hoppin' John. Some ways of cooking that are well-known in the U.S. today were reported in West Africa before 1500. They include deep-frying fish and barbecuing meats. These kinds of foods were critical to the creation of Southern, and in time American, food. Many of these foods with roots in African American culture came to be known as "soul food." The name was a way to identify food that African Americans began to create a long time ago to eat with dignity as enslaved people. The expression "soul food" originated around 1960 when the word "soul" began to be commonly and largely used to describe African American culture. Enjoy your meal, Y'all! This CD sounds like an upgraded and improved modern-day version of the legendary STOMPIN' and many similar "unofficial" albums that first made the World aware of so many great forgotten obscure tracks nowadays regarded as "classic" of the genre. The artwork is simply fantastic and the back of the CD (like all the compilations by the "Mojo" Man) mentions the original label and catalogue number, so it's easy for a record collector to score an original copy. Once again too many good songs to mention here. This collection features 28 tracks even if it's hard for any human mind to remember more than 20 or 24 songs by different artists. It's another "All Fine Frame - No Parts Lame" CD but the highlights of this volumes are probably the rare rockin' version of "Bloodshot Eyes" that Wynonie Harris re-recorded for Roulette, "Teenage Party" by Sonny Knight, a black version of "Raunchy" by Ernie Freeman and the original recording of the Little Richard-style number "Messing With The Kid" by Junior Wells on Chief Records. Junior is mostly regarded as a bluesman nowadays but he recorded songs in many different styles during his long career. This was his contribution to the rock and roll craze of the late 1950s. Wells recorded this number many times in a more "bluesy" vein and the song is considered a blues standard today.
Rockin', sleazy and electrified... They expected that competencies learned in the service would upgrade their status as skilled workers when they returned home. For many, this hope did not transpire. Although the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 prohibited discrimination by race in recruitment, African American World War II soldiers did not train, camp, or serve with white soldiers. For African American men who were wounded and needed blood transfusions, they received carefully separated blood that was labelled either "White" or "Black." When the war ended, segregated planes and trains took African American soldier's home. Accounts of World War II written by white commanders excluded or misreported the contributions of African American servicemen, focused on the failures of African American units, and highlighted the supposed frailties of the African race. On Memorial Day please remember those Black soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for a nation that did not honor them!
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0732/1937/5187/files/3994478_e30e180a-4957-45a5-8571-e3fed4a9b612.jpg?v=1789031624
the-harlem-hotshots-4260072729643
The Harlem Hotshots
The brothers Frankie and Lewis Lymon were from the Harlem district of New York City, which was a low social-economic community, that was bursting with musical talent, and music was the dream and the opportunity for them to escape from adversity.
