Portland Death Punk 2 on CD

Portland, Maine's Covered In Bees had a fantastic 2006. The band started the year winning a couple of awards from local entertainment magazine the Portland Phoenix, taking home plaques for Best Punk Act and Best Live Show on the strength of their first album, Portland Death Punk Vol. #1: Portland Is For Lovers, released in 2005. The band then started the difficult task of playing just about every weekend (each member still works a full time job). They ended up stacking up an impressive list of shows, opening for national acts like Murphy's Law, Outbreak, Darkbuster, and The Queers while living up to the reputation of having the best live show in Portland. The Bees were the first band to play the new location of legendary Portland punk club Geno's, and the last band to take the stage at another punk spot in town, the Alehouse, before it closed down. They were also very happy to find their way to CBGB's in New York to play the club before it closed. In 2007 they contributed a song to the movie Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead, the new film from Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Entertainment. They also won their 2nd Portland Phoenix award for Best Punk Act. Now the Bees have completed their second full length, Portland Death Punk Vol. #2: Louder Than Fire. Recorded with their good friend Jason LaFrance (from Doug's other band Confusatron), it is a serious step forward in their sound. Bigger and bolder than their first record, their songs are now even more infectious with heavier guitar and drum sounds and fist-pumping sing-along choruses. Not bad for a band that likes to play songs about heartbreak and monsters.
