The Gordon Stone Band plays original music focusing on composition, interaction and improvisation. They combine bluegrass and jazz, blended with Latin, world beat and funk in tunes ranging from laid back grooves to high energy musical excursions. ' The music will lift you up. 1992, '93 Gordon records on Phish releases, 'Picture of Nectar' and 'Rift' and plays live shows with them. 1994 The Gordon Stone Trio is formed with Jazz Mandolin Project's Jamie Masefield and Stacy Starkweather. 1995-'97 CDs 'Scratchin the Surface' and 'Touch and Go' are released featuring Gordon's compositions and many of Vermont's finest musicians. Gordon Stone Band plays at Phish's, 'Clifford Ball', 'Great Went' and 'Lemonwheel' festivals. They also share bills with 'Strangefolk', 'Tony Trischka' and Grammy winner 'Alisson Krauss'. 1998 release of 'Even with the Odds' is acclaimed by the Gannett Press as 'instrumental album of the year.' Gordon Stone Band receives 'Best Bluegrass Performer/Artist Award' from Good Citizen's Vermont Music Poll. Gordon records on Strangefolk release 'Weightless in Water'. 1999 The Gordon Stone Band records Gordon's original film score for the movie 'Mud Season'. The film is an official entry at 'Slamdance' and wins best picture at both the Pasadena and Silver Strand film festivals. 2000 -'01 GSB's recording of 'Runaway Jim' is included on the Mockingbird Foundation benefit compilation CD 'Sharin' in the Groove', celebrating the music of Phish. Other artists on the disc include Dave Mathews, Arlo Guthrie, Jimmy Buffett, Little Feat and more. Russ tours w/Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, on his acoustic/electric tours. Gordon joins side project's 'Al and the Transamericans', who are: Al and Vinny from moe., Erik Glockler from Strangefolk, and Kirk Juhas. They record an album in Richmond VA at David Lowry's studio. While there, David has Gordon records some banjo and pedal steel on the new Cracker release. 2003 Phish bassist Mike Gordon's album 'Inside In' is released on Atlantic Records Rope a Dope label and Gordon tours nationally with Mike and an 8 piece band in October 2003. Al and the Transamericans release 'Analog' and continue to tour. 2004 Gordon joins Sam Bush, Peter Rowan and Vassar Clements on stage at The Gathering of the Vibes - World's True Masters of Bluegrass. 2005 'Rhymes With Orange' is released - the fourth studio album - never before recorded original music. Gordon receives Boston Emmy nomination for the soundtrack to Jay Craven's 7 episodes public television series, 'Windy Acres'. 'Rhymes With Orange' receives the Best Instrumental Album of the Year in Vermont 2005 from the Times Argus/Rutland Herald and makes the Top nine Albums for the Year 2005 from the Vermont Guardian.
