Baroque Splendor on SACD
Biber's Missa Salisburgensis is the largest-scale work of sacred music from the Baroque period. It is an archetypical work of the Colossal Baroque, a poly-choral composition which took advantage of the multiple organs and various locations available for groups of singers and musicians to perform in the Salzburg Cathedral. It was likely composed for the 1682 celebrations that marked the 1100th anniversary of the founding of the Archbishopric of Salzburg. This stunning recording features Jordi Savall's ensembles at their best and fully reveals the splendor of this masterpiece.
