Magali Bessone is a professor of political philosophy at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne, specializing in theories of justice and reparation. In the history of political philosophy, she traces the key moments in the construction of certain indispensable tools for thinking about the present: Aristotelian reflection on democracy and power; the critical theory elaborated by the philosophers of the Frankfurt School; and the contractualism of American philosopher John Rawls, explored and criticized by Susan Moller Okin and Charles W. Mills. The reflexive tools of political philosophy are themselves tools for democracy, is the challenge Magali Bessone invites us to take up.
