My Room Has a Window on CD

Jim Quinlivan is a New York City-based singer-songwriter. He was born and raised in Brooklyn but currently resides in Manhattan's Lower East Side. 'My Room Has A Window' is Jim's debut collection. His follow-up release will be available here in late 2007. Asked about the themes of his songs, or the messages he wants to convey, Jim is ambivelant but honest. 'You know, I've never been one to attach an agenda to my music, or to anything I've written. These songs are all just little pieces of my life--relationships, experiences, disappointments...they're all in there; disguised enough to protect the innocent but honest enough that I hope people will make a connection on their own terms.' But surely every artist has some recurring theme or through-line? 'Well, if there's any common thread running through these songs,' Jim concedes, 'it's one of optimism. I don't like unhappy endings in life, where you don't always have a choice. I certainly don't write them in my songs, where I do have that choice. There may be a lot of longing in my music, but I think there's ultimately hope.' Jim cites a line from the track Willow as an example; 'I am just a poet trying to write a happy ending'. He smiles and admits, 'that's pretty much me'.
