R & B, Neo-Soul, Old-School Essence, you can choose the label. Whatever the case, it's unmistakably music that moves you down deep and it's being brought to you by Octavius, with the help of his close companion Passion. Octavius Delivers story with song; Music he describes as 'Poetic Romanticism.' With smooth vocals and sweet melodies strummed on his Washburn Acoustic guitar, affectionately named Passion, Octavius brings life to his lyrics. To hear him is to feel him. 'My music represents everything about me...' he says. It's a deliberate yet seamless blend of old soul with the new soul of R&B hip-hop because he feels, '....we can always learn from our past, and our future is nothing without it.' With musical influences ranging from Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye to Brian McKnight and Maxwell, you'll hear in his music generations of soul music come together. Octavius has been honing his writing and vocal skills in his hometown of Atlanta, GA, where the underground music scene has produced artists that are reshaping today's R&B sound including Joi, India Arie and Donnie. And with this resurgence of music of and for the soul Octavius is inspired to bring his own heart stirring music to the offering. Prepare yourself... for THE experience. Rolling Out Urban Magazine Nov. 2004 Singer/Songwriter, Caught Up If you're at an Octavius Terry gig and you happen to look up to see an Olympic gold medalist meandering through the crowd, don't be surprised. The former Georgia Tech track star counts some of the world's top runners among his most avid supporters, now that he's switched lanes to pursue music. Although he's been writing for quite some time, Terry's professional pursuit only began three years ago. Yet he already has something to show for it. His debut EP, Caught Up, is currently being sold locally at Tower Records, Earwax and Wax N' Facts. His CD is full of the intimate stories he sings while playing the acoustic guitar he calls 'Passion,' because 'I really wanted to learn how to play, so I named it that.' His style has inevitably earned comparisons to India.Arie, but Terry actually lists Lauryn Hill as a significant influence. 'I try not to be too deep, but deep enough that people can grasp the concept,' he says. Apparently, it's working. Terry's already getting positive feedback for songs like 'Miss Diss-content,' which he admits is 'literally about a person I knew.' Then there's 'Daddy,' the last track on the eight-song CD that's been known to bring listeners to tears. 'I'm from one of those families where everybody loves each other, but we don't hug and all that kind of stuff,' says Terry, who voiced his love and appreciation for his father for the first time in this song. 'My dad says he listens to it everyday.'-rodney carmichael.
