Short Momentum on CD

Origami Ghosts is the band of native Seattle Singer-songwriter/guitarist John Paul Scesniak. Growing up the son of a college and professional football coach in America, music wasn't exactly at the forefront of family dinner conversations. But between his mother's jangly piano playing, his brother's classic rock and 'rap' music, and his sister's Supertramp record on repeat, music seemed to seep into to his body. 'JP' began learning and studying the guitar in the winter of 1995. Encouraged by his guitar instructor's words, ' have a nice high tenor voice,' it was at this time that he also began singing, and started writing songs soon after -- compelled to write short, simple, and melodic folk/pop songs... And he never stopped! He went on to write hundreds of songs, including 2 CD's worth of material for Origami Ghosts. Origami Ghosts evolved as sort of a side project for some of Jp's slower, softer songs. He asked hammered dulcimer player and longtime friend Joel Hanson to play along to some of these tunes and the two formed the foundation for O.G. The first Origami Ghosts show was at an art gallery opening in Seattle at a place called Home Alive in late 2004. The group then added the talents of other musicians: Ki Johnsen (cello), Amir Estakhrian (drums/guitar), and James van Leuven (drums/recording). Their first club show was the highlight of the band's young existence...sharing the stage with Domino Records recording artists hood at Neumo's in Seattle. Later that summer JP lived in France and played shows in Paris (origami ghosts, plan b) and Switzerland with plan b. In 2006...Origami Ghosts went on a spring tour from Seattle (Bellingham) to New York City. Stopping in Missoula, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Madison, WI; Chicago, IL; Ypsilanti, MI; and New York, NY. In January 2007 O.G. released their debut -- 'Solving My Own Puzzles' released on on their label,'hand to mouth media'. The album made a small splash, landing on many college radio station charts around the country. In February 2009 O.G. toured from Seattle to Texas and back. It was their 3rd national tour. The Origami Ghosts release 'short momentum' is melodic and catchy, pop and soul. Neat electric guitar hooks, quirky-good reverb-soaked vocal melodies, warm and sailing cello sounds, and thumping drum beats, uniquely drive 'short momentum' out of the folk world, towards the sounds of punk and pop. The songs are written by Scesniak, with the accompaniment of cello (Ki Johnsen), and drums (Amir Estakhrian and James van Leuven). The album was produced by Kevin Suggs (Cat Power, Goodness) and mastered by Kramer (Galaxy 500, Low) O.G. is influenced by or has been said to sound like the following things: Pinback, Modest Mouse, Will Oldham, Galaxie 500, L'altra, anti-folk, punk, pop, 60's folk, David Byrne, Hood, Joan of Arc, Califone, Fleetwood Mac, Woody Guthrie, Karate, Blonde Redhead, the Shins... OG like many bands. Here are some...Built to Spill, L'altra, pinback, tarentel, califone, blonde redhead, mice parade, De La Soul, hood, Nirvana, Woody Guthrie, and modest's possible that they could sound like (or have been influenced by) some of those bands or people. Origami ghosts write moody, and spacious anti-folk/pop/punk/hop songs. They are based out of Seattle and Paris. Besides Origami Ghosts, Jp also performs under the names Jean-Paul de Bellevue, Goodbye...Polarbear!!!, Paper People, and John Paul Scesniak.
