Priscilla Haapa Hawkins was a scholarship student in cello at the University of Michigan Music School where she earned a Bachelor of Music Degree and then went on to complete a California Teaching Credential. Priscilla studied with Arlene Seaman, Oliver Edel, Edward Korkigian, Jerome Jelinek, Jeff Solow, Ron Leonard, Lubomir Georgiev and Marika Hughes. She has taught strings in the public schools in Michigan and California. While living in the central valley of California, Priscilla founded and participated in a chamber music series for 10 years. Mrs. Hawkins served as principal cellist of the Bakersfield Symphony, Bakersfield College Chamber Orchestra, Tulare County Symphony, Grosse Pointe Symphony, and the Detroit Women's Symphony. She is currently teaching private cello in Davis, California where she founded The New Davis Trio, Voice of the Wood, an interdisciplinary masked performance and music project, and played for 10 years with the Stockton Symphony. In recent years Mrs. Hawkins has played recitals at Finlandia University in Michigan, and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as Davis, California.Ms. Hawkins current project is working on experimenting playing alternative styles of cello music. In the summer of 2001 Priscilla and her husband, Cole, inaugurated the "Music and Ecology Camp" at Mono Lake for teenagers. The successful camp continues this year August 2-8. Ms. Hawkins served as California President of American String Teachers Association and Sacramento Section President.
