1/ 14/ 2008 on CD

On July 27th, 2008, Sal Boyd, under the moniker Sally, will present his debut album 1.14.2008 to the world and not a moment too soon; the music comes as a breath of fresh air in the present rock scene. Recorded the true, old-fashioned way, live in a period of only eight hours, 1.14.2008 stands as a tribute to all of Sally's influences as well as a promise of what's to come. One listen is enough to catch even the most biased of ears, but the best part of the record is the depth and magnitude of each song. The musicality and skill level of the performers, Sally, and his cast of band members, called the Concrete Shoes, is easily heard in the opening blistering pop track "The One The Only" or the tongue-in-cheek "Blame It On Technology." With further inspection, the record is of uncommon lyrical profundity, a plea for pure love and art above commerciality. The music is rooted in classic '50s rock and roll and pop progressions, but clearly it incorporates surf, latin, blues, and a myriad of other genres, a fact that goes to emphasize Sal's musicianship, versatility, and evolving nature. A song is a living thing, constantly changing and ever developing; Sal does not take this lightly, integrating new arrangements and ideas to give the best possible performance. Sally, just a sophomore at Berklee College of Music, is at the commencement of his musical journey and with his passion, adaptability, and insight; it is bound to be a long and fruitful one.
