Sandbox: Are We There Yet? on CD

Hailing from the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, Sandbox plays upbeat, twangy traditional and original music for children and families. With a focus on vocal harmonies and interactive performances, the band plays around the state at festivals, community events, and private parties. In 2007, Sandbox released their first album, KidSongs, a country- and rock-inspired collection of traditional children's songs that appealed to both kids and parents alike, and now the band is excited to announce the release of their second record, and their first record of original material, Are We There Yet? With Are We There Yet? Sandbox delivers sixteen unique and entertaining songs that span a wide breadth of musical styles. The band explores pop and rock in songs like "Pajama Party," "Jump Jump!" and "PB Jam," swinging jazz in "Coconut Stew," and Latin stylings in "Keep the Water in the Tub." In "Ladybug" and "That's Not Nice," they return to the upbeat, twangy country roots that defined their first album. "Dream Song," "Follow Me," and "Nautical Song" are heart-felt folk songs, and the band has also created a lush lullaby, "Bedbugs," as the closing track. This album carries the unmistakable Sandbox sound, and adds further dynamics and musical textures with the addition of the band's fifth member on mandolin, dobro, and steel guitar. Multiple song-writers and vocal leads along with three- and four part-harmonies add variety that will keep the entire family engaged and singing along. Hoping to continue their appeal to folks of all ages, Are We There Yet? is a warm, fun and funny record that navigates the joys of childhood: dreaming, family, food, play, and learning. About the players: Frank Tuttle and Ed Hoffman (guitars, vocals) both led local bands for years. Jeff Morats (bass, vocals) was a founding member of a pop group in Oregon, and Chris Bean (drums, vocals) was a top member of the Florida State marching band. Pat Hicks (mandolin and dobro) has played in country and zydeco bands locally and in his home state of Louisiana.
