Someone Stole My Shoes: Beyond The Q Division Sessions on CD

First ever full release of these sessions from Morphine's Mark Sandman's "secret band!"

Artwork created from Hypnosonics flyers created by Mark Sandman himself!

Includes a zine style insert featuring more Sandman art, photos, and liners from Hypnos sax man Russ Gershon!

In 1986, while Mark Sandman was still touring with his first major label band, Treat Her Right, and before he convened the now-mythical Morphine, he assembled what is often referred to as his “secret band.” Hypnosonics remained a favorite side project, and performed for the last time two weeks before Sandman’s death in 1999. Playing guitar and organ as well as singing, Mark was joined by members of the large jazz ensemble Either/Orchestra, with whom he was also collaborating at that time, for the funkiest excursions of his diverse career. An edition of the band which included future founding drummer of Morphine, Jerome Deupree, and future bassist/leader of Club d’Elf, Mike Rivard, recorded five songs at Q Division Studio in Boston in 1989, contained herein. Also included are four more tracks by the 1996 edition of the group featuring original drummer Jay Hilt along with Morphine's Dana Colley, trumpeter Tom Halter, and saxman Russ Gershon. The early history of the band is detailed within this package in notes penned by Gershon.

Mark Sandman: vocal and electric guitar on “Rub It In,” “Insomniac,” “They Bent Me,” “Early Man,” Someone Stole My Shoes,” and “Where's the Girl?”; vocal and organ on “Livin' With You”

Tom Halter: trumpet; background vocals on “Someone Stole My Shoes”

Russ Gershon: soprano sax; flute and keyboard on “Rub It In,”; tenor sax on Fort Apache versions of “Rub It In” and “Early Man”; tenor sax and background vocals on “Someone Stole My Shoes”

Mike Rivard: bass

Jerome Deupree: drums

Jay Hilt: drums on “Someone Stole My Shoes,” “Where’s The Girl,” & Fort Apache versions of “Rub It In” and “Early Man”

Dana Colley: baritone sax, background vocals, maracas on “Someone Stole My Shoes”
