The Wheeler Duo brings together the musical styles of 7-string, jazz guitarists Brent Wheeler and Emily Wheeler. Despite their divergent musical background, (Brent had much rock influence and Emily much classical influence) the two have found a way to synergize their musical personalities and create mellifluous, spontaneous, and moving music. Their passion for jazz has enabled them to form a jazz- guitar duo where each is allowed opportunity to function as a rhythm section, by producing bass lines and harmony, and to improvise solo lines.----------------------------------------- Emily Wheeler began playing guitar at age five under the direction of her father, Michael Christiansen. She received her bachelor's degree at Utah State University in Music Performance. While there, she was the recipient of many awards including the Outstanding Guitarist, Outstanding Theory Student, and Outstanding Music Student Award. She has been a performer in various styles of music; she has performed classical guitar as a soloist and with other groups including the Utah Festival Opera Symphony, performed with cover bands, funk groups, and jazz combos. She earned her master's degree in Guitar Performance at Bowling Green State University while studying with well- known and respected guitarists Chris Buzzelli and Matthew Ardizzone. She began teaching at the collegiate level at age 19. Currently, she teaches at South Plains College and maintains an active performance career.---------------------------------- Brent Wheeler began playing guitar at the age of ten. He has studied with and/or attended clinics with accomplished musicians including Michael Christiansen, Joe Lano, Jack Peterson, Chris Buzzelli, Matthew Ardizzone, Roben Ford, and Stefan Karlson. Brent began performing professionally in Las Vegas while still a teenager. Later, he earned his bachelor's degree in Music Performance at Utah State University and his master's degree in Guitar Performance at Bowling Green State University.
