Description

Original 1969 Beverley's Records album - Newly restored & remastered - Pressed on 140-gram black vinyl - Comes in a reverse-board outer sleeve - With printed inner sleeve featuring exclusive sleeve notes by music journalist and reggae authority John Masouri. Toots and The Maytals' 1969 debut album! Formed by lead vocalist legend Toots Hibbert, and the ragged call-and-response background singers Nathaniel "Jerry"McCarthy and Raleigh Gordon, Toots & The Maytals were spotted by Beverley Records' founder Leslie Kong who produced the group's first records in the 60s. Their Sweet And Dandy album was featured in 1972's emblematic movie The Harder They Come, which included a performance of the title track recorded at Beverley Studios and also highlighted 'Pressure Drop' in it's accompanying soundtrack. The movie's unprecedented success, combined with some of the solid gold singles pulled from this album, fast-tracked Toots and the Maytals to reggae icon status, assuring the group international success and making Sweet And Dandy one of the most highly acclaimed albums in Jamaican music.
